Varos and the Sheenryn Arc
Varos spent the first leg of the journey carousing with the locals, and received a magical trident as a gift from one of his drinking friends. He assisted the crew on their journey to the Temple of Exoden. He disapproved of their cavalier nature toward the former religious site, and felt strongly that they should have allowed Akmenos to die rather than risk a potential future betrayal. Varos single-handedly killed Lord Jebdul during the instigated fight between the Bullywugs of Exoden and the goblins of the Mogabex, and claimed his crown and cape as his own. Varos found the contract upon the hobgoblin leader of the Mogabex, suggested searching the ruins of the temple for additional missing artifacts, and hopes to bring back this new cache of religious icons and texts back to the library at Albeser.
Varos before the Cloudskimmer
Varos, as a Paladin of Akadi, is on his great pilgrimage. Worshipers of Akadi are encouraged to roam like the wind, and as a crewmember of the Cloudskimmer, he can travel extensively. Varos enjoys exploring local customs and cuisine, and frequently asks questions about other cultures and viewpoints. When questioned about his own life and background, however, he becomes evasive. Varos’ favorite past-time is local gambling; each culture has their own variation on games of chance.
Varos, like many dragonborn, was born upon an airship. His parents were pirates aboard the raider ship Blue Lightning. His father, Sargo Cloudstrider, was a gunner, while his mother, Maila Cloudstrider, worked the mess hall. Varos did not spend much time upon the Blue Lightning, as at the age of 3, his parents sold him to slavers. The cost of raising a child aboard the Blue Lightning was most likely too prohibitive, and a dragonborn (who is self-sufficient at 3 and reaches adulthood by 15) is a good catch on the black-market. Varos was kept in a crate for weeks as the slavers sought a buyer, and was eventually freed by a local policing force. He was later placed into foster care.
If Varos has any extended family, it is unknown, as any other family members were presumed to have lived on different roaming ships. Blue scaling is rare among dragonborn (and hereditary), so any other blue-scaled dragonborn are likely to be (at the very least) distant relatives.
Varos was eventually placed under the care of Byron Kuros, a cleric of Akadi. Varos embraced the tenets of Akadi, and was trained as a paladin in her service. Varos was the only child that stayed with Byron continuously during his childhood, though Byron had fostered several other children for short stays in different locales. Varos stayed with Byron until the age of 18, when he parted ways to begin his own great pilgrimage.
About a year later, Varos joined the crew of the Cloudskimmer. Varos acts as chaplain, providing spiritual support, praying to Akadi for safe travel upon the winds, and joining ship and crew for defense when needed. Varos hopes to return the favors of his childhood: he would like to raise and support someone in the manner he was raised, and wishes to settle the score with his parents and the members of the Blue Lightning.
